German Vontobel prize for ageing research
Visiting scientist MD, PhD Timo Hinrichs has won the Vontobel prize for ageing research awarded by the University of Zürich for his research paper ”Inverse effects of midlife occupational and leisure time physical activity on mobility limitation in old age – a 28-year prospective follow-up study” which was written in collaboration with researchers from GEREC.
Timo Hinrichs worked at GEREC in Jyväskylä as a visting scientist in the year 2012 and wrote a paper called ”Inverse effects of midlife occupational and leisure time physical activity on mobility limitation in old age – a 28-year prospective follow-up study” using data from the FLAME study which is a follow-up study on municipal employees. The study was launched by the Finnish Institute for Occupational Health in 1981.
The price winning study investigated the association between work-related and leisure time physical activity and mobility limitations. Several researchers from GEREC’s both sites from Jyväskylä and Tampere were involved in this writing process.
