Current vacancy: A postdoctoral researcher, in the field of molecular biology of HDL-particle

A postdoctoral researcher, in the field of molecular biology of HDL-particle, from 1 September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The postdoctoral position is for a fixed term of four year (or less if started later than 1 September 2020).

We are seeking a motivated skilful postdoctoral researcher to join our group to study the role of menopausal hormonal change, physical fitness and physical activity on composition and function of lipoprotein HDL. The postdoctoral researcher will work in the Academy of Finland funded MATCH-research project at the Gerontology Research Center (GEREC) and the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä. The MATCH (Menopause-Associated differences in Transporter Complex HDL’s composition and function) -project is builds on human studies ERMA and EsmiRs and furthers ongoing research lines at the GEREC and faculty to understand biology of female aging.

GEREC is a collaborative effort in ageing research run jointly by the University of Jyväskylä and Tampere University. GEREC was set up to produce new scientific knowledge on the life, health and functioning of the ageing population. Our aim is to increase understanding of the prerequisites for enjoying a meaningful life across the lifespan. We also participate in university education and seek to further expertise in the field of ageing. At the University of Jyväskylä, GEREC is part of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, which nationally takes responsibility for teacher education in sport and health sciences. In addition to GEREC, the faculty has also two other research centers: the Neuromuscular Research Center and the Research Centre for Health Promotion.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have good skills in English language.

To be eligible, the candidate needs to have a doctoral (PhD) degree in applicable research field (e.g., cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, bioinformatics). The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience in methods of cell and molecular biology or molecular genetics and a good academic communication and writing skills in English. Work will include planning, executing, analysing, and reporting own research project as well as other research related duties as part of EsmiRs-research group lead by Academy Researcher Eija Laakkonen. Experience in bioinformatic analyses, versatile experience working with different cell and tissue samples as well as research experience on lipid metabolism or lipoproteins is an advantage.

Your starting salary as a postdoctoral researcher is about 3300-4000 € / month, depending on your merits, skills and experience. A holiday bonus is paid to all employees.

A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.
