Academy of Finland: funding for postdoctoral research in gerontology

The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Health has awarded research funding for PhD Mikaela von Bonsdorff and PhD Elina Sillanpää

At its meeting on 6 June 2012, the Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Health decided on funding for research posts as Postdoctoral Researchers. The Research Council received a total of 120 applications for research posts as Postdoctoral Researchers. The Council decided to grant Postdoctoral Researcher funding to 23 applicants for the period 1 September 2012‒31 August 2015. The applications were of a high quality but the Research Council was only able to fund some 19 per cent of the applications submitted.

From University of Jyväskylä, Gerontology Research Center and Department of Health Sciences funding was awarded for:

– PhD Mikaela von Bonsdorff  Early physical development, growth and work career as determinants of old age health and functioning – Life course epidemiology for years 2012-2015, 273 131 euro.

– PhD Elina Sillanpää Functional capacity and telemere length in older women for years 2012-2015, 289 941 euro.
