Life-space mobility describes the size of the spatial area where person moves as well as the frequency of travels in that area. Life-space mobility reflects the balance between individual resources and environmental challenges in person\u2019s daily life in the real world situation. This study is based on the assumption that changes in hearing and cognition in aging and\/or a noisy environment can cause a deprivation of environmental information for the affected person, which in turn can be expressed in uncertainty and poorer functioning in mobility tasks. Better understanding of the challenges hearing impaired person has to face in everyday life, and understanding of the consequences of poor hearing for the mobility is needed in order to promote the older person\u00b4s equal opportunities to participate actively in the society.<\/p>\n

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 kuulemisvaikeuksien vaikutuksia i\u00e4kk\u00e4iden henkil\u00f6iden sosiaaliseen osallistumiseen ja elinpiirin mahdolliseen pienenemiseen. Elinpiirill\u00e4 tarkoitetaan sit\u00e4 alueellista tilaa, jossa ihminen liikkuu sek\u00e4 eri et\u00e4isyyksille tehtyjen matkojen yleisyytt\u00e4. Erilaajuiset arjen elinpiirit kuvaavat yksil\u00f6n resurssien ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n vaateiden v\u00e4list\u00e4 tasapainoa. Tutkimus perustuu olettamukselle, ett\u00e4 mahdolliset ik\u00e4muutokset kuulossa ja kognitiivisessa toimintakyvyss\u00e4, sek\u00e4 meluisa ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6, vaikeuttavat i\u00e4kk\u00e4iden henkil\u00f6iden ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n havainnointia ja saattavat ilmet\u00e4 liikkumisen ep\u00e4varmuutena. I\u00e4kk\u00e4iden henkil\u00f6iden arjessa kohtaamien erilaisten kuulemisongelmien ja niist\u00e4 mahdollisesti aiheutuvien liikkumisongelmien parempi ja laaja-alaisempi ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4minen on tarpeen pyritt\u00e4ess\u00e4 edist\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n i\u00e4kk\u00e4iden henkil\u00f6iden aktiivista ja tasa-arvoista osallisuutta yhteiskunnassa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
