Vitality 90+

Vitality 90+ is a multidisciplinary long-term study conducted at Tampere University that follows the health, functional ability, quality of life, living conditions, and use of health and social care services among Tampere residents aged 90 years and older. Established in 1995, the study is internationally unique due to its long follow-up period, large study population, and consistently high response rates.

Research data have been collected using multiple methods. Population-based surveys have been conducted on 11 occasions since 1995 (n = 10,830 observations). Life story interviews have been carried out in three rounds of data collection (n = 341), and biological data have been collected in four rounds of health examinations (n = 850). In addition, the survey data have been linked with national register data on health and social service use, prescription medication purchases, and mortality.

Together, these datasets form a unique research environment for examining changes in longevity, functional ability, life experiences, well-being, biological ageing, and health and social care systems over a period of more than three decades.
